Through the Lens of Europe: SHOOT Students Explore Creativity and Culture in Águilas

  • by

The SHOOT Project continued its international journey with a vibrant mobility hosted in Águilas, where students and educators from across Europe came together for a week dedicated to creativity, collaboration, and cultural exchange. The event combined a student mobility programme with a project partners’ meeting, offering participants the opportunity to explore innovative educational approaches based on photography and digital storytelling.

The mobility gathered participants from Italy, Spain, Greece, Poland, and Estonia under the framework of the Erasmus+ SHOOT Project initiative. Throughout the week, young participants took part in interactive workshops, teamwork activities, and local explorations designed to strengthen communication skills, visual expression, and intercultural understanding.

Rather than focusing only on traditional classroom learning, the programme encouraged students to observe the world around them through a creative lens. Using photography and storytelling techniques, participants documented local landscapes, cultural elements, and everyday moments while reflecting on themes connected to identity, sustainability, and active citizenship. The activities promoted creativity, critical thinking, and meaningful participation, while helping students better understand how visual narratives can communicate ideas and emotions.

The programme was closely connected to the thematic priorities previously identified through international student consultations carried out within the project. Students from partner countries highlighted strong interest in topics related to environmental sustainability, cultural heritage, and civic identity. These themes became the foundation for many of the activities developed during the mobility in Spain.

Working in mixed international teams, participants created visual stories inspired by the local environment and community of Águilas. Through collaborative exercises, they explored how photography can be used not only as an artistic tool, but also as a way to reflect on social realities, local traditions, and environmental challenges. The activities encouraged students to exchange perspectives, discuss shared values, and develop greater awareness of different cultural contexts.

The mobility programme also included cultural visits and outdoor learning experiences that allowed participants to discover the rich heritage and coastal atmosphere of Águilas. These moments provided inspiration for the storytelling activities and strengthened the connection between creativity and real life observation. At the same time, students developed teamwork skills, confidence in communication, and greater openness towards different cultures and viewpoints.

Alongside the student activities, project partners held a transnational meeting focused on the implementation of the SHOOT methodology and the coordination of future project actions. Representatives of the partner organisations reviewed the progress achieved so far and discussed the preparation of upcoming workshops, technical outputs, and educational resources.

Particular attention was given to digital storytelling methodologies, sustainability related activities, and ethical image use. Partners exchanged ideas and good practices on how to support students during creative learning processes and how to ensure that project materials remain engaging, practical, and adaptable for schools across Europe. Discussions also addressed the preparation of technical guidelines, webinar organisation, and the creation of a shared repository for project photographs and results.

The meeting provided an important opportunity for partners to strengthen cooperation, evaluate ongoing activities, and plan the next stages of the project together. By working collaboratively, the consortium continues to develop innovative educational approaches that place students at the centre of the learning process.

The mobility in Águilas demonstrated the value of experiential learning and international cooperation in education. Through photography, storytelling, and intercultural exchange, the SHOOT Project supports students in developing creativity, communication skills, civic awareness, and confidence in expressing their own ideas and experiences.

For many participants, the mobility in Águilas represented an unforgettable international experience that combined education, creativity, and cultural exchange. Beyond the workshops and project activities, students had the opportunity to connect with peers from different countries, share ideas and experiences, and create memories that will remain long after the project activities conclude.
